Our Journey
2018 - EPP Australia was established in 2018 to bring the incredible work of Enneagram Prison Project USA, to facilities within Australia. The legal entity supporting EPP Australia is ‘The Enneagram Movement LTD’ which is an ACNC registered charity endorsed with DGR Item 1 status. Starting as a small team of 4, 2018 represents the beginning of what has been an incredible journey for EPP Australia.
2019 - This was a year of finding our grounding and building connections. Our local team began developing the foundations required to successfully and sustainably deliver EPP programs to Australia’s incarcerated and vulnerable populations. We worked closely with members from various correctional centres to identify partnerships and opportunities for delivering our first pilot program in Australia.
2020-2021 - When the pandemic arrived on Australian shores, programming opportunities slowed down, because lockdowns - both on the inside and outside - prevented people from visiting correctional centres. Understandably, new programs were not being introduced to incarcerated populations during this uncertain time. This lower than anticipated level of activity continued through 2021 and left our team eagerly awaiting the opportunity to initiate programming. We were ready to program, with nowhere to go.
However, the ‘pause’ of 2020 and 2021 presented the team with an opportunity for internal growth and development. EPP Australia more than tripled in size during these two years introducing a diverse spectrum of hearts and minds that will support our vision and mission as we move forward.
We also worked with the global EPP team to develop a public-facing, online EPP program called 9PrisonsONEKey (See 9P1K) which allowed us to continue moving towards our vision of Freeing people – all over the world – from the prisons of our own making. We are now well practiced at programming online to diverse populations. This provides the opportunity for us to confidently program remotely with locked down facilities in the future.
Present Day - As the world learns how to adapt to our new normal, we have set our hearts and minds to meeting the needs of our most vulnerable communities on Australian soil. We look forward to witnessing the growth of EPP Australia as we begin to deliver programs to individuals who need it the most, and it is with great anticipation that we look forward to sharing the benefits that we know our program will deliver to the communities we all call home.
If you are moved to support us as we continue this journey of healing and connection for Australian communities, please get in touch through the Get Involved page. We would be very happy to discuss how we might work together towards achieving our vision.
